Description
- Bas Trap(commonly known as Pheromone Trap) is specially and scientifically designed trap, which is used to trap the adults of target pest insects when, placed in the fields along with the Bas Lures.
Bas Traps are generally used to monitor the pest population and also for mass trapping of the target pests.
- There are three types of Bas Traps available at BASARASS.
- Bas Trap(Plastic funnel trap) : Generally used to trap larger moth pests like American Boll worm, Tobacco caterpillar, Spotted worm, spiny boll worm, Paddy stem borer.
- Bas Stic Trap (delta sticky traps) : Highly recommended for small moth pests like Pink Boll worms or for tiny pest like White flies, Thrips etc..
- Bas Beetle Trap (bucket trap) : This is a bucket shaped trap used for trapping large and relatively heavy insects like Rhinoceros beetle and Weevils.
- How does Bas Trap work in the field?
Install Bas Trap of your specific target pest in the field after fixing the particular insect�s Bas Lure in the provision given in the trap. For example, if your target pest is American Boll worm install Bas Funnel Trap along with Bas Lure of American Boll worm.
Place 5 traps / acre at random to cover the entire field. After installation the pheromone inside the Bas Lure will permeate slowly in the air. The male insects in the vicinity will pick up the odour and by tracking the odour they reach the trap assuming that a female insect is there for mating and get trapped in the polythene sleeve. This Bas Lure will be effective in the field at least for 15 days. Replace the lures after 15 days.
The Sex Pheromone Bas Lures are very effective in suppressing the male population thereby reducing the reproduction rates. This controls further multiplication of pests in the field.
