Description
The salwar kameez / churidhar Kameez is an amazing legacy left to India by the hoards of Persian invaders and the Mughal Royals who invaded her. It is the feminine companion of the Kurta / Sherwani Pyjama worn by males.

A set consists of a kameez, salwar / churidhar, & a duppatta / stole.

a) The 'kameez' as its popularly known is the garment which is worn on the upper part of the body. The english and french words 'chemise' have their origins from the same word. With the fashion cycles the hemlines usually rise upto hip level and fall down to mid calf. The kameez can have sleeves, be worn as a strappy dress or even be worn sleeveless (The appropriateness of the syle depends on the ocassion and the wearer).

b1) The 'churidhar' is cut on bias and fits the legs snugly with ruffles appearing in the bottom of the garment near the ankle. To give comfort and a better fit many churidhars often have a gusset in the crotch area. Paired with a well sewn knee length kameez it can add height and help a person to look slimmer.

b2) The 'shalwar or salwar' as its popularly called is a pyjama styled bottom. the broad hip band is attached to gathered / pleated pyjama legs with a band at the ankle / heel area.

c) The duppatta is a versatile length of fabric which is used for many purposes in a set
+ as a towel during hot weather,
+ as a shawl during cooler climes,
+ as a stole for decoration,
+ as a scarf, headpiece or a blanket during travel.
